~ Florida Conservation Organizations ~

Photo taken in Aripeka, FL, Copyright 2001, Jan AllynIf you are reading this, then you are someone who enjoys the many outdoor recreational opportunities our magnificent state has to offer. We're blessed with sunny weather nearly year-round, ocean on three sides, literally thousands of freshwater lakes, both temperate and subtropical forests, and abundant plant and animal life--some of which is found nowhere else on earth. But our natural places are under constant threat from urban sprawl, pollution and depletion of natural resources, and encroachment by rampant exotic species.

Do your part by managing your own plot of Florida paradise in a sustainable, non-polluting way, by encouraging family, friends, neighbors, and visitors to be similarly conservation-minded, by educating yourself about environmental issues in your local community, and by regularly communicating your desires and concerns to your elected representatives.

You can also help by supporting Florida environmental groups with your financial contribution or by volunteering your time. Listed below are just a few of the many organizations that are working diligently to preserve our natural areas for future generations. In addition, many state and local parks, nature centers, natural history museums, botanical gardens, and other places have "friends" organizations you can join. What a marvelous way to make new friends who have interests similar to yours!
